The Ever Changing World and What Stays the Same - The Book as an Art Form
While electronic gagets have powerfully changed our means of communication, the touchable book remains of great interest to people. This past weekend at the BC Historical Society convention in CR, quite a few people came in to buy historical atlases, small pamphlets, and books that related to their field of interest. Today a lady wistfully eyed the 1877 two volumed, leather bound Library of Poetry and Song. Could she set it aside? Of course. Later a mom was thrilled to take home almost new children's books from the 50 cent basket outside the store. In a pleased tone she related that she had found a book that would help complete others from the set at home that she was collecting. Still Water Books and Art believes that the book, still communicates in its paper, leather and glue form. It is music to our ears when someone comes in and gently strokes a book and murmers, "How beautiful!"
